Place: Diaz Cleaners
Kelly: Our first apartment together was on this street, and this was our dry cleaner, where sweet Ruffino would help us with minor repairs and hems. Once pregnant and living in Gowanus, I remembered how amazing “Diaz” looked on the sign-this becoming the name of the love of our lives, our daughter, Diaz.
Location: (40.713690, -73.972616)
Place: Williamsburg Bridge
Don: I would kiss you in the middle of the Williamsburg bridge, in the dark, in the summer. Remember that night in 1997 when we we kissed on the bridge and fireworks actually started going off over the harbor?
Kelly: Wow! Those were some fire works!
Location: (40.734917, -73.988447)
Place: Irving Plaza
Kelly: Remember the magic at the Roni Size show in the balcony of Irving Plaza in 98? Where we couldn’t believe the beats were made by a live drummer? And where we stood for many other shows? I would love to kiss you there again.
Location: (40.752751, -73.97527)
Place: Graybar Building
Don: We were together there in 2001 when we found out that our bid was accepted and we were on our way to buying our first house together. You ran up and down the hall in my office, in your socks, cheering!
Kelly: Such a happy memory!
Location: (40.668566, -73.994258)
Place: Our Gowanus house, 112 14th Street
Kelly: Which reminds me of a more somber one, I would like to kiss you in front of that Gowanus house. We started gutting the home the day after we closed on it: September 11, 2001. As ashes landed on our front porch, tears fell onto the linoleum tile that we pulled up from the wood floors, giving our confused energy focus.
Location: (40.716686, -73.946609)
Don: I would kiss you in the back of a taxi at night, either on our way out or on our way home. All of my memories with you (and just you) in a cab are good-- we have freedom and each other’s attention while someone else does the work of getting us to our destination.
Location: (40.768558, -73.935839)
Place: Socarates Sculpture Park
Kelly: During the daytime, I would like to kiss you in Socrates Sculpture Park. We have spent many warm days under the shady trees, reading books on our plaid Pendelton blanket.
Don: Blankets. Mmmmmmmm.
Location: (40.720880, -73.94011)
Place: Rehearsal space
Don: I would kiss you in our rehearsal space, where we make art together and express our emotions in ways that we can’t in other locations.
Kelly: Yes I want to kiss you in our rehearsal space too!
Location: (40.714810, -73.943423)
Place: Harefield Road
Kelly: That reminds me of where we would brainstorm on song ideas for our first band together, Postpeople. Remember in 2011, the year I wasn’t working, when we would go to Harefield Road on Metropolitan Avenue? We would sit at the candlelit table in the back right corner, sipping $3 happy hour pints and writing lyrics.
Don: I would definetly kiss you at Harefiled Road.
Location: (40.711093, -74.006349)
Place: The Beekman Pub
Don: And speaking of bars, I would kiss you any day at The Beekman Pub in Lower Manhattan. We had our first drink together as a married couple there.
Location: (40.715210, -73.962003)
Place: My first Williamsburg apartment
Kelly: I really want to go back and kiss you where we had our very first kiss. On the sidewalk in front of my first Williamsburg apartment. What is so awesome is that there is a tree growing in that sidewalk now....
Don: That was one of my favorite kissses ever!
Location: (40.664831, -73.976803)
Place: Prospect Park 9th Street Entrance
Don: I would like to kiss you lying on the grass in Prospect Park. Remember how we would take the blanket to the field near the 9th St. entrance and daydream while infant Diaz would nap in the shade?
