I'd kiss you here because.... It was right before I left on my trip.  I took a walk in my favorite neighborhood park where I walk and think endlessly.  My mind was swirling with thoughts of you, what was ahead, what I was leaving behind, and how my trip (with a very open itinerary) would evolve.  This picture embodies the joy, elation and excitement that I felt of the summer ahead, the known and the vast unknown, curious about what was to develop.  I went to see this art installation by Jeppe Hein one last time before I left.  I would have kissed you there in that light and said:  I'll see you when I get back.  Little did I know.

I'd kiss you here because... We met on the plane to Rome.  Having travelled extensively, I tend not to talk to the person next to me.  I love a plane for complete quiet and alone time, unreachable, in more ways than one.  It was the first international trip I took alone.  Often I use travel time to research and read.  I was deep into plotting my Rome "plan".  You asked me if I had ever been to Rome.  I shared my travel books with you.  We had the exact same return flight.  We spoke quite a bit on the plane, both breaking our own "rules".  We took a taxi into Rome together.  When you dropped me at my hotel, I hadn't even gotten into my room and you texted me.  You met me at dinner that night after your event.  You brought me a rose, I lost my mind.  We walked every night, by the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and then to sit on the Spanish Steps, talking until wee hours of the morning.  We kissed on the plane on the way home, a lot.

I'd kiss you here because... It was one of the first breath-taking moments I had in Rome.  I took this as I walked to see the Roman Forum.  I texted you this picture, you were working while I was sightseeing.  We texted quite a bit during the day.  It was so good for me to know you were there.  Any trepidation I felt about traveling alone internationally faded, fast.  We didn't kiss here, but I would have kissed you there.

I'd kiss you here because.... It's the Colosseum!  Almost impossible to comprehend all that has happened here and to be in a place that was built in the 70's A.D.  We met for dinner together the second night.  We talked about our day, the sights I saw, the meetings you had.  The next night after work you were able to see this on your own.  I didn't realize the first time I saw this that I would be back, several times.  It is always breath-taking, making you feel small in the universe.  I would always kiss you here because it's one of those things that never gets old.

I'd kiss you here because.... We did!  It was our last day in Rome, we made a plan, this time together.  We went to see the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel.  It was so much fun to be together seeing Rome.  As we left this was our view and the last picture I took on that trip.  I had not seen this in pictures at the time, I was in awe.  Trip complete.  I let some "rules" fall by the wayside and met you.  Incredible first trip to Rome, alone and not.  I went there with no idea I would ever kiss someone, I did, we did.

I'd kiss you here because... It's Cupid.  Kissing required.  Shot through the heart.

I'd kiss you here because.... Florence is magic.  We stayed right on Ponte Vecchio.  The summer skies were incredible, morning or night.  Since it was my first time in Florence, I set out to see the sights.  Even though we had just met before I left for the trip, I found myself thinking about you and bought you a gift from one of the stores right near where we were staying.  I would love to kiss you there.  Love.

I'd kiss you here because... I texted you from there because it is the home of the perfume I wear that you love.  When we said "goodbye" before I left, I gave you a bag with a bottle of my perfume and some sweet cards.  You LOVED IT and I got the "THANK YOU" texts as I took off to Rome.  People always tell me I smell good, so I had to go to the source.  The Basilica at Santa Maria Novella was incredibly beautiful. Breathtaking.  I bought some wax "tavolette" to keep in my suitcase for the remainder of the trip.  Every time I opened my suitcase, the smell reminded me of the magic that is Florence.  You would love kissing me there.

I'd kiss you here because... The street art in Florence was sweet and mimicked what the city offers in a way I hadn't seen before.  Lots of play on "romance" in the art in the streets.  I would have kissed you each time I saw one I loved.

I'd kiss you here because.... When I hurt my shoulder you told me it was beautiful and that I was a modern day Venus.  Of course, I went to Uffizi to see the original painting.  I found myself enraptured by the sculpture of The Birth of Venus painting.  I would have hugged you huge and kissed you madly then and there for all your sweet words to me as I had to learn to live with a permanent injury that made my shoulder look like Venus - funnily enough.  I love you for changing my perspective.  One of the sweetest gifts you ever gave me.

I'd kiss you here because.... Michalengelo's David is remarkable in size and beauty.  As we  moved throughout the Academia Gallery nothing prepared me for what I saw when I walked into the "Gipsoteca Bartolini".  Sensory overload of plaster casts, in the best way imaginable.  It is one of the things I would want to show you.  Seeing so much work is at times as overwhelming as seeing one piece of art history.  I have never been in a room like that in my life.  I would love to go back and kiss you there.
